Removing the neck of a MM

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello! i just got a MusicMan Steling which im planning to take away the finish.

I dont know if its going to stay natural or if im going to repaint it.

I already removed the laquer once of a jazz bass, so i assume the sanding is the same. Im going to ask in the luthier forum anyway.

the question is: it i remove the neck for 3 or 4 days: do i have to turn the truss rod? what other precaution should i have?

Also, the truss rod is turned from the body and not from the headstock as other old fenders i had; what way tightens and what way looses it?

thanks!

If you are going to have the neck off for a few days you should take the tension off the truss rod. Turn the truss rod nut counter-clockwise until it moves freely (completely loosened) after the strings are removed.

Counter clockwise looking from the bridge? or from the headstock?

Also, when i put the neck back: how do i know how much to turn?
