Removing the "Squier" logo...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

So I played a gig the other night and a guy came up to me at the end and told me that my tone really blew him away and that he was interested in my bass setup.

We were talking for a while and he asked about my bass (A Squier Viantage Modified Jazz) He said how stunning it was then stopped and said "oh, its a Squier...."

Thinking about it now, its annoyed me that he dismissed it out of hand as it was only a Squier, despite it sounding and playing like an expensive Bass.

Sooo im considering removing the Squier logo on the head, and replacing it with a Fender logo so people will take this Bass seriously.

Has anyone heard about this being done before? or has anyone got any suggestions about how to go about this?

Thanks guys!

so wait, the dude was blown away by your sound and then disappointed to find that he too good get an instrument that sounds as good for a couple hundred bucks????

does that REALLY make sense to you?

big lesson in life...

don't you EVER worry about what someone else says or thinks unless you know and trust them enough to respect their opinion. Otherwise, it's quite likely that they could be just dead wrong!

it's a bass...a tool...and no, they SHOULDN'T take it seriously...what they should take seriously is the BASSIST!

rock on, dude...leave the logo in tact...

nothing wrong with a Squier that sounds good, now is there?

I'm using the same exact bass for gigging and recording right now and it sounds great! I have no shame and it's nice to not be overly worried about scratches, theft, etc.. It's all about the music, not the gear that makes it.

This one of the psycho-acoustic maxims of musical instruments:

Perceived tonal excellence is directly proportional to the prestige accorded to the applied label.

It has nothing to do with acoustics.

It has everything to do with psycho.

Leave it alone.

The fact that he had good things to say about the tone and was then put off by the name proves him to be a dumb@ss... Only ignorance can lead a person to go against what their ears have already told them just because the name wasn't "cool" enough.

I hear ya bro,
I get the same reaction when guys see the "Peavey" logo on my head stock. All though back in 2000 when I bought it new the street price was $1500 u.s. All I know is it is the right bass for me and I don't care what any body else thinks.
rock on dude

Leave the Logo as it is.

The sound you get is the important thing....and in his own words it blew him away.

If he thinks about it he will realise this, and to his perception, he will be even more impressed with your playing.

I played a Squier for a couple years. It was almost the exact same conversation that I had with a guy in a club we played that made me realize that yes, I do indeed have my own voice on bass, regardless of the instrument brand! So you, too, must have your own voice, and it translates "in spite of" the obvious handicap of playing a Squier! Be glad, be proud, and see my avatar. It's a Squier P5, got it for $160-ish. Really slayed people that initially looked down their noses at me when I whipped out the el-cheapo, furrin-made, unmodified Fender wanna-be axe!

I miss my squire P. Got compliments on the sound of that bass so often. I love my Lecompte, but damn, I miss my Squire P.

Well I am actually interested in this too. I have a old yamaha that i have torn apart and in the process of putting back together but I want to remove the logo. No attack on Yamaha, I'm just thinking about putting my last name up there instead.

If you ever want anyone to take a Squire seriously, then don't change the logo, if you do, you are just boosting the Fender image unfaithfully.

I just received the Squire "Jaco style" Fretless, after a few adjustments it is totally awesome playing and sounding, I'm thinking of recording with it....it was $320cdn taxes in. What a deal!

I'd rather hear a smokin' player on a Squire, than a "hack" on an Alembic any day.(I have a fretless squire jazz that I play quite a bit)

I don't think you need to change it to prove anything to anyone.
If you do, though, don't just slap a Fender logo on there, design your own!

What I find dissapointing is that you were so easily swayed to opt to change the logo, based on this doofus' comment, in the first place.

You bought a Squier because you like it. That is the only qualifier in the equation. It works for you, sounds great, and it's a Squier.

Leave it be.

There was a gent here recently who was lambasted for doing just this (changing the logo to fender...do a search), for fear of reselling the instrument on eBay as a potential forgery. Please don't do that either.

Pull the Squire logo but don't pass it off as something it isn't; try scripting Yermom on it or something else.

I'm not going to lie....a few years ago i picked up a bass that looked awesome, sounded awesome, and played awesome ... I then looked at the squire headstock and put it right down. Looking back I am ashamed.
