Aussies don't say "Fen-derrrr" like the North Americans..."errr" at the end of a word is nearly always "ah"...
So "Fen-derrrr" for Americans would be "Fen-da" for Aussies...
Gee...I can't believe I went through all of that to explain it...
oh well... |

If you play very well on a squier, your showing people that the music is made by the musician and not by an expensive instrument by letting them see that you are playing a Squier.
And Squier is making some decent guitars if you go standard series and higher, they in no way limit one's playability on the bass if you know how to do your own setups and adjustments and have a decent amp. By hiding your Squier logo you are only helping to strengthen the image that squiers arnt good guitars. When really, your Squier proves that they can be more than enough to play very well on and get a very good sound, more than enough to get compliments from strangers in the crowd as you have said. The new models that Squier has been introducing are good enough to pass off as real fenders, and I would believe that they are better than MIM fenders for build quality, My closest shop has 3 MIM fender jazz basses that all have signs of bad quality control. (Crooked/Off center pickups, crooked neck heel plate, glue marks, sharp frets, etc)
I think I would lose respect for a person if he/she was to pass a squier off as a fender by changing the logo, it shows the person is hiding something because they are worried about what other people think.
Fearing what other people think is something you will need to overcome if you really want to move forward in life as an individual.

if you want, go to the Fender Forum (.com), and hunt around, there is a topic on "Famous Players Who Play Squiers" or something like that...lotsa names...my fave is the brilliant Norwegian Guitarist, Terje Rypdal, who rips up with a Squier Strat.

| | | | i have a Squier Precision Special that has a Fender made in USA logo on it. i bought it used and that was how it came. the guy i bought it from was very explicit in the auction about it not actually being a Fender, but in fact a Squier. he also said he was very impressed with the sound, finish, ect and to that i agree. i got a good deal on it so i bought it. i could care less about the logo and i'm still not sure why he changed it as it wasn't to defraud anyone and it does sound and look great. it still has the made in indonesia and the real serial number on the back of the head stock and the squier neck plate. when people ask me about it i tell them, nope it's a squier, bought it used this way. no idea how he took the decal off or how he replaced it as it looks really good and is hard to tell it's not the original decal. if i was handy at all i would think about taking it off and putting a Squier logo on it, but i'd probaly just mangle the head stock so it stays for now. |

I wonder if anyone would ever sand off their genuine Fender decal and replace it with a Squier decal? Like on something valuable, say a 62 or a 75? |

| | | I say leave the logo there. Just relax, and enjoy your instrument.
It may interest your bar snob guy that Fender was originally something of a low-rent proposition anyway. A common criticism of the early fenders was that any idiot with a bandsaw could make one... which was kind of the point. They weren't handcrafted things like gibsons or epiphones. (Epi was it's own company back then & not Gibson's discount line.)
Follow the checklist:
1- does it feel good when you play it?
2- does it sound good when you play it?
3- is it reliable?
if you got a yes on these, the instrument is perfectly fine no matter what name is on the headstock.
I have two vintage Rickenbackers. My Jay Turser beatle bass gets as much play time as the Rics. Why? It passed the checklist, dammit!
True studio story : out for dinner with some people after a session (I was engineering, not playing) & one of the people asked the producer what bass he preferred on his session.
The answer was "the one in the hands of the best player."

This is exactly the link that you need.
However half the time this website doesnt work, Right now it doesnt seem to work.
Bookmark this link and check it every day, I think they are just having bandwidth issues.
The tutorial shows you how to remove and replace the fender logo with a custom logo that looks amazingly real once finished.

to BassProle keep the logo man.. Fender is not paying you to deface an instrument or aiding you in your development as a bassist...
MOD EDIT: PLEASE REREAD THE USAGE AGREEMENT. ALL PROFANITY MUST BE COMPLETELY MASKED.

| | | | Alright guys! (OP)
Id quote loads of your posts but mine would be massive so i think ill sum it in without quoting!
Ive decided against removing the logo and sticking a fender one on, if i did remove the logo id stick something random on in the veins of "metal up your ass" etc....
This post has given me so much more confidence to go out and play this bass, and a new attitude to boot. If and when someone comments on my playing and tone, im not going to hide away from what label ive got on my equipment, im going to be proud / slightly arrogant that ive got such kick ass gear for such low prices!
Cheers for all the advice and opinions you guys have offered!!
