Removing the Sticker on my Duesenberg Starbass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Bassists,

i bought a Duesenberg Startbass from a Local Shop 3 Weeks ago. I really do love the Bass but the Shop where i bought it puttet a Sticker at the rear of the Headstock with the name of the Shop etc. The Bass is Brand new and i hate Stickers on Basses.

I want to remove the Sticker but whitout damaging the laquer. I either don't know what kind of laquer it is as the Duesenberg Website doesn't say anything.

any ideas?

The adhesive on labels usually respond to one of two solvents: water or naphtha (lighter fluid, mineral spirits). Try one. If it doesn't work, the other will.

The alternative to chemical warfare is heat. A heat gun or hot hair dryer will soften the adhesive and make it easy to remove. Be careful with heat guns. They generate enough heat to damage a guitar finish. Or, in an extreme case, ignite the guitar.

A second to the naptha suggestion--works for most labels. Just don't smoke while you're doing it--naptha is highly flammable. After you're done, hang the rag outside to air out, don't keep it in your house.
