In my shop I utilize ... my knee as a fulcrum while grabbing the bass by it's headstock and body. I massage the neck loose so that there is no 'catching' on anything. I then measure the relief with a long straight edge that is machined for accuracy. once the proper amount of relief is applied to the neck - all other action adjustments are accomplished via adjustment of the bridge saddles and/or adding/removing shims to the neck pocket

remember - the trussrod is to adjust neck relief and NOT your action! once the neck releif is properly set you are done messing with the trussrod!!!!!!! I repeat - once the neck releif is properly set you are done messing with the trussrod!!!!

as noted above - if your trussrod is bottomed out, remove the adjustment nut and add a shim or two so that you once again have adjustment.

all the best,

R

Luthier pro setup $50.
or
New neck $300.

I wonder what I'd have chosen.

yup, i believe i followed this...after adjusting the t/r for the relief, i adjusted the bridge saddles for the right actiod but still there's alot of relief in the middle part of the neck ( i think this is where the t/r fulcrum is)...i even tried letting the neck settle for a day. i also tried adding a neck pocket shim, but it didn't help coz the last frets made buzzing and i had to higher up the saddles. ....but what i didn't tried was adding washer on the adjustment nut.

hello, i would have chosen the $50 setup...but that would mean 2000 pesos here, and that's a lot here for a setup, at least for me. this is a squier korean bass, if it was japan i don't think i would have touched it (or if it would have the same problem). and also i want to do this "diy", and also for me to learn how to destroy and put back a bass . but i still don't wanna mess this one up, it still is a beautiful white jbass . thanks for the suggestion Jazzad.

cofibreyk: I have a gentle suggestion for you. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on the board who can help you out. Next time: ask the question before you start to take the bass apart; wait for a number of replies (meaning, I disagree with the first posts you got in reply); be patient; and try the most conservative steps before resorting to sharp tools. Unless you're a real lucky guy you are on your way to having a piece of firewood.

You may just have a bad neck. It happens. So your other option is a replacement neck. You can usually pick one up pretty cheap on ebay if you wait.

I like your enthusiasm and you do learn a lot by taking things apart yourself.

I'm in the same situation on a Squier P-bass neck I picked up. I bottomed out the truss rod and still needed to straighten the neck a little more. I picked up some split washers that I flattened out and I've put 4 in so far and, though it's better, I still need some more adjustment. Should I keep adding washers or is the neck junk?
