 repainting and Painting and image onto my bass

Hey guys Ok Ok i need help,
I want to repaint my Bass guitar.. Well Its a bass a friend gave me. Its a Cort Action black.
firstly I want to make it a nice Gothic Matte black but i want to paint an image on it... I'm an artist so there is no worries there but the problem is do you guys know what medium i can use and how do i seal it without losing detail and how do i seal the matte black without making it shine and lastly what paints can i use to paint the bass!!!
I actually need help on how to start ETC i need help from beginning to end..
