Repair person in SF Bay area/Silicon Valley?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of having the electronics repaired or replaced outright in one of my older basses. I would like to use someone near to my home in Silicon Valley who is excellent with electronics. I'm new to this area, hence the question.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I've heard very good things about Keith Holland in Los Gatos.

Great thread...I've been looking for someone for 15 years.

Seriously - there are great cats out there, it's just not easy finding them. There are a few I wouldn't recommend, but I'll shut my trap and keep that to myself. My absolute favorite is Gary Brawer (www.brawer.com) but I haven't gotten a voice or email response from him in the past year. I understand that the guys @ Griffin in Palo Alto are outstanding as well. Good luck, and thanks again for the thread. I'll keep my eyes peeled on this one.

GO see Mark Brown in Campbell, by San Jose. He was the Dobbie Brothers guitar & bass Tech. From The Captain & Me , to Living On The Fault Line . Mark is one of the best techs in Ca. Almost, every pro knows Mark Brown. Note: Mark has the gold records on the wall of his shop, from being with the Dobbie Brothers. I've gone to Griffins, I live about four blocks from Griffins. Griffins is good with guitars , but not so good with basses. Plus their high priced for what you get. I've gone to bunch of techs over the years including Keith Holland , & the best is , Mark Brown.

I can personally recommend Greg Menacho/MSI Guitar repair.

A very nice guy who listens to what you ask and delivers quality work. He's done tune-ups/adjustments and also p/u, shielding, and hardware replacement for me. He's very reasonable, works quickly, and he works from his place here in San Jose. He guarantees his work, and he is a trained luthier.

If you close to San Francisco, SF Guitarworks on Potrero is the place. Jeff's a great guy and also a bass player. Did an awesome fret level and dress on my 62RI Jazz.
