I need some quick advice. I’ve been passively looking for a beater acoustic guitar (I know, I know) that I can throw in the trunk, drop in the dirt, pick out bass lines in bed, etc. I don’t know how understanding my wife would be if I brought my half-stack to bed while she was trying to watch t.v…
Anyway- Stumbled upon an Epiphone
PR-150 at GC that had been dropped. The associate wouldn’t even put it back up on the wall after I played it, it was so bad. Anyway, they offered to sell it to me for $72, supposedly what they had in it. My question is this: With the damage (I will describe after), what can I expect from the guitar? I’m looking for 3 or 4 years of playability. Like I said, I just need a beater. I have nicer instruments but I don’t really play guitar.
It looks like it was either dropped hard or hit up against something at the front-bottom edge. It’s kind of hard to explain but it’s made almost a 3rd, flattened surface along the front-bottom edge (if you had it upright, not like you’re playing it). It doesn’t have any cracks running through it from the jolt, it is just kind of smashed flat on that edge. I don’t know much about instrument construction so I don’t know what to expect over time as far as expansion, contraction, and whether I can expect it to literally fall apart. I was thinking maybe I could just cover it with some sort of finish, etc. to keep It together/protected for a few years.
Thanks, and sorry for the novel…
I'm going to post this on an acoustic guitar forum, too. If I can find one...
