I was once told that if you fill the cracks with good super glue (loctite or similar) and teecut it smooth that works really well. Has anyone tried this or other better techniques? |
The super glue is my own primary way of doing a ding repair. I start by removing any loose chips or discolored fragments from the ding in the finish. Then I'll keep dropping the CA in the ding and letting it dry hard until it's filled to just above the surrounding surface. Now, here's where I do it different than some...Instead of sanding down the bubble of dried glue, I file it down with a small flat jewelers file run over the surface. The teeth of the file won't grab the glossy surface surrounding the bubble but they do to the glue. I center the file on the spot and file until it's almost level, then I "brush" the file back and forth across the repair until it's flat and smooth. A little 2000 grit wet and it's ready to buff out. The CA will get glossy just like the surrounding polyurethane. This makes it perfect for neck dings. I've repaired some significant craters by doing this.
