Repairing Teeth Marks?

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought my bass used, and fairly beaten. I'm not looking to make it look new again, but there are some bite marks (from a dog) on the body I'd like to repair. They go through the finish and expose the wood. I plan on doing a small spot repair by sanding down the finish, filling the holes and doing my best to blend in some new finish. What kind of filler should I use to repair the teeth marks?

I'd leave it as-is and prepare an outlandish story to go with it.

Like being attacked by a rabid raccoon and fighting it off (while naked, because you were nailing a swedish model) with nothing but that bass guitar, and you just couldn't bear to part with the memory.

Sounds about like what went down, except it was a rabid wolf and a Russian model.. and I can't remember exactly which one did the biting.

Ok, I'll bite. . Any no-shrink wood filler ought to be fine.

Vampires.

Tell a story about how you fought them off with the bass and that's how it got the name "Buffy"

I would try wood filler. Elmer makes some really good stuff that is sandable and they have it in a number of shades to match the wood it's being used with, if you have a trans finish.

Then you can call it "Buffy"
Only if he buffs out the finish.

It might not get the most replies, but I'll bet it gets a ton of views. "Repairing Teeth Marks"

Just admire it

I saw a very nice pair of jeans with lovely "bite mark", I'd say just admire it.

I would leave it alone

I saved my squier VM P from the same fate...
My German shepard was caught the other day ....
She pulled the bass off it's stand by the strap and drug it around the room , then stood over it licking her lips ... I busted her in time and saved it from certain destruction ...

I'd go with the vampire story, but if the OP really wanted to repair the marks, I'd try steaming them out.

Maybe a couple of pics please......
It'll add more creativity to our suggestions, if we could see the wound.

I read somewhere, using nail polish for minor scratchs/chips does the job but it sounds like you may need a surgeon. I too would go with the rabid dog story, it was great how you saved that little girl with your bass.
