does anyone know where to get good repiars & setups in chicago?
i haven't been able to find anyone. i took MTD into schroeder guitar not to long ago & they messed it up. (super high action & now i am having problems with my pickups cutting out) i had to take it in 4 times to try & get the buzz out & ended up having to go way out to indiana to get it fixed.
the problem is that i have searched & schroeder seemed the most knowledgable & reputable. i was wrong. |

He's got a little shack on the corner of Roscoe and Damen and is phenomenal at setting up guitars and basses. My musician friends at work recommended him to me after I got my first MIA Jazz bass. I had lost hope in Fender basses as this thing played like a slab of wood with rubberbands. One week and $60 later (includes new strings) I never knew my bass could play so good! Like butter!
He adjusted the action, filed down the edges of the frets, and gave it a thorough once over for any electrical probs (although it had none) I can't wait to take my new Geddy there in a few weeks (as soon as we don't have any shows for a week cause I have no backup bass LOL). |

I'd have to look up the number and address if you interested, but it may be to far out of the way for you. |

it's only like 30 min south of downtown chicago and right off 294 so it shouldn't be too bad no matter where you are |

| | | | Check out Chris Eudy at Third Coast Repair, he should pop up right away in a google search. He used to handle alot of follow up and warranty work back when I worked for Ibanez, and I'm told by several of my customers in Chicago that he does great work on high-end instruments as well.

| | | | bass repair guy* I agree, look up Jerry Loy at Players Guitars in Worth, IL. they are located on 111th street. Jerry has the magic touch and he can do just about anything. While your there, go across the street for some killer tacos..... |

Does anyone in the Chicago-area know if "Guitar Bob" is still roaming around? He set up a few instruments for me back when you could get free setups at Guitar Center one day out of the week...brilliant ploy on their part -- you ended up browsing around the store waiting for Bob to get to your instrument...and his work was amazing.

+2, Jerry's work is awesome, and he won't take a hit on your pocketbook either (not that it matters, given his workmanship). Good thing I live within 10 minutes of him. |

Parking can be a problem though.
Also recommend Walles Music. The guy there, Paul, is excellent. This is my "Go To" shop and repair spot now. Here is the link to their web site. http://www.wallesmusic.com/ |
