Replacement bridge for 65 hagstrom 4

Sign in to disble this ad
did a few searches, no luck...
i have a '65 hagstrom 4 string bass,
it currently has the standard bridge:

but i'd like to replace it with something that i can adjust intonation on....
i use it as a piccolo, with a number of different tunings.
string guages are .020, .028, .040, .058.
anyone have any links/info on a decent replacement?
i would think something that would work would also be good for old guild starfire basses, maybe a fender mustang bridge would work?
any ideas would be appreciated
thanks

Your bass might be a '66 because of the squared pickups, not sure.

Anyway, the only other bridge I know of which wouldn't require drilling is the one used on the HIIBN bass which had humbuckers. It had a sliding saddle bar with individual saddles, some had mutes. I'd just replace the wood bridge with another piece of wood and cut/whittle/sand it until it was how I wanted it. That will probably be the easiest (definately cheapest) route to take; plus it won't hurt the originality. You could set intonation and string spacing to what you want instead of being stuck with an aftermarket piece with wider spacing and extra holes in your bass.

thanks for the info,
good idea on the fabrication....
to be clear, i'm not worried about modifying the bass minimally
(such as drilling a couple holes if absolutely necessary)
as it's a player and i'm more concerned with functionality.
you can see the electrical tape over the switch cut outs in pg...
the electronics crumbled long ago and the pups are wired directly to the output jack. i'm sure new tuners are in the cards as well...
for the bridge i'd really like something independently adjustable,
preferably metal. on the fabrication tip, i suppose i might be able to modify the current bridge if i can find the right saddles....

Another thing to consider is your string ground wire. I've seen it two ways: 1) run from the output jack hole to the little flat head screw under the right height adjustment screw (right front), and 2) to the right tailpiece mounting screw (right rear). Those are cool basses.
