replacement bridge, What to expect?

Sign in to disble this ad
i have recently got a pair of lindy fralin split jazz pickups, still waiting to be put in. but now that i have those, its got me thinking about more upgrades, namely a new bridge. i dont have any particular brand in mind, i was just wondering how my bass would benefit from new bridge. seeing as how i dont have my new pickups in yet, i couldnt say exactly what im looking for, just what i might expect. i have a MIM fender 60s classic jazz. any help is much appreciated. thanks

You will get many opinions on this. My own opinion is that it won't make any significant difference to change the bridge unless you really WANT it to - in which case you will probably hear a difference whether there is one or not. It's the psychological effect of changing parts.

I'm confident the next person who responds will feel quite differently!

Cool bridge

If you decide to change the bridge, I'd go with the BADASS II
-IMO-

The bridge wont make as much difference as the new pickups. Buy some new strings or something with the money..

IME there is a very subtle change to the "feel" of the strings between a high mass and a low mass bridge. High-mass bridges tend to be "zingy" feeling. It may be all in my head. Virtually all claims of changes in tone, sustain, etc., are in my opinion contrived in people's minds and are not real.

The Badass II bridge is very popular and has a certain look if you like that, but IMO there are substantially better alternatives out there if you want to experiment.

By far the best reason to change the bridge is for aesthetics.

Feel the 'zing'? That's a first... High mass bridge definitely changes the sound. If you prefer the change is up to the individual I guess.

It will raise the action for sure, but that's something that can be fixed.

If it aint broke dont mess with it, a BA II might give you shim/action issues.
