Replacement Fender Jazz Neck $850.00??

Sign in to disble this ad
So I had my final bass lesson with my instructor the other night. Long story short, my wife has gone back to school for her Master's Degree and there's no money in the family budget for lessons at this time.

So I get to talking to my instructor about neck warping and other catastrophic neck problems. He then relays a tale of a student of his that had the maple fingerboard lift on him and, according to my instructor, he had the neck replaced with an actual Fender replacement neck to the tune of $850.00. Now I found this to be a ridiculous statement but maybe I'm wrong. Does Fender actually charge that much for a replacement neck? I don't see how they would ever sell any since there are a number of very good parts makers that can supply a Jazz bass neck for much less that that. Methinks my instructor is on another planet with this little story..

I don't know but I wouldn't pay it.

I can buy a nice used MIM for less than half of that.

Wow...why so much? Would you seriously be able to tell the difference between that and say a Warmoth replacement neck?

im so sorry you had to quit your lessons. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I respect that.

Your instructor is spot-on with the neck replacement story, tho. Sad, but true.

With a bit of research, a proper replacement neck can be had for about half the price of an original Fender neck.

As Pilgrim stated, you can get a used MIM neck for less than half the price....good news: many of the "MIM" necks are actually made right here in the Corona mfg plant!

I toured the Fender Corona plant last Friday; was told many of the necks made here are trucked down to Ensenada (Mexico) and bolted onto the MiM bodies!! So you could theoretically buy a "MIM" neck and you'd actually be getting a MIA neck!!

Whoda thunk it?

From what I've seen it's pretty difficult to buy a new Fender neck. I almost think they only sell them if you have a damaged one and they get it back.
Not sure if that's totally accurate or not.
