I'm looking for a replacement fretless jazz bass neck. I did a search and it seems like Allparts and Warmoth are the most common. A lot of people on here seem to think that Allparts aren't up to much and that the Warmoth necks are on the chunky side which I don't like the sound of. I love the feel of my Jaco Jazz Bass neck and I'm looking for something close to that. I don't have lots of cash to spend on a custom made job. I just need a nice Maple/Ebony neck thats not too fat and chunky.
Any thoughts on Allparts/Warmoth? Or any other options out there I should take a look at?
Thanks

Probably closest to actual Fender necks which you may also find from folks parting out basses. Warmoth are great necks, but to me they feel much chunkier and weigh more.

What do you mean by "on the chunky side which I don't like the sound of"?
Its debatable that a thicker neck would give you better sustain, but there shouldnt be a tonal difference, should there? |

I've bought necks from them as well as Warmoth and would call USA Custom superior. Also they allow much more in the way of customization, for example radius, truss rod type/location(headstock or heel), width at nut, thickness, reinforcing rods(graphite) or no rods, various finishing options etc. Excellent.

Fits perfectly. Ebony would have been nice, but nothing wrong with the ebanol. I like the side dot at the first fret position. |

I highly recommend that you do NOT take it on a gig where you are playing in direct sunlight or hot environments. The Ebanol soaks up the heat, expands, and the neck does an immediate backbend rendering your wonderful low action completely useless.
I spent 150 bux getting the thing setup for my 1/2 step down tune so it wouldnt sound flabby or buzz and it went to crap in about 5 minutes. Ebanol sucks . Stick with wood.

And another plus 1 on the USACG necks.
