replacement for lightweight black plastic tuner on Jazz V

Sign in to disble this ad
anyone familiar with the lightweight "deluxe" tuners that came on 2003 MIA Jazz V? the ones with black plastic over the gears... one of mine broke last night, mysteriously. anyway, does anyone know where to get a replacement? or of another brand which could easily replace the un-reliable plastic ones? thanks

thanks! i'll look into that link...

yeah, the "D" tuner broke, the black plastic part, of course. funny thing: i played a 15 minute set at a jam, put the bass in the gig bag in a corner, three hours later i get the bass out to close the night and the D string had lost all tension, and the tuner was just hanging on like a loose tooth. i bent it back a bit and it fell off in my hand. i know nobody touched it the whole night, i guess it was just time for it to go...

the only other time i've had a broken tuner, also a "D" string tuner, was when i was one or 2 weeks into playing bass, tuned the string way too tight, "snap!", the thing couldn't take it, some generic bass and pre-internet so i couldn't find a replacement part, i just tuned the "G" string down to "D" and played a 3 string bass for a year and a half!

EDIT: i checked that link, they were out of stock on the chrome tuners. did some googling, found what i was looking for (and lots of parts to look at) at www.darrenriley.com for 5$ cheaper than the other place.
