Replacement Neck and tuners for P Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay well im wanting to try out a maple neck on a modded squire p bass I have. But since its still a squier body, i cant really justify a "real" (warmoth or other) neck.

So what are some opinions on Mighty Mite or Guitar Fetish necks? Heres a link to the guitar fetish.

Bass Satin Sealed Vintage Style Neck

If i do the MM then i figure I'll throw MM tuners in it since they are made to fit.But what if you guys say the GF neck is a better choice? Which tuners? Or should I ditch both of those for another bang for the buck neck?

Im just looking for suggestions and input on the quality of those. A maple neck on this bass will look great, plus I havent ever owned a maple neck bass.

It's what? $100? If your desire and curiosity can afford that to be quenched -- GO FOR IT!
Remember, you are not destroying anything, you are simply adding to it. You can always retreat back to the original neck. unless you find out that you need to route out some wood. - I would ask that before buying. THEN you ARE making a commitment.

Which one is better thought? Or is there a better one for the price?

Everything has it's good and "less-good" sides to it. I haven't bought either of those brands. I am sure someone whose done it will give you an opinion.
IF NOT....read the sites closely and then give both of them a call. ALWAYS do this stuff in person (voice) if you can it shows a great deal if a human deems you worthy to speak w/ you aside from taking your $$$. The people who have & will give more info and actually take an interest in you -those are the guys to buy from (if all else seems equal).
What (IMO) you want to avoid is any type of shaving or route out of wood pock/neck so you can pop back the original neck, a neck that was built w/ your cut-out reference in mind, and good customer service. But remember it will be a $100 neck: it may be inappropriate to expect boutique guitar builder / luitherer level dialog.

But to address the question directly if it was me, I would do my research generally alone. YOU know what you want and YOU have personal preferences.

Good luck; have fun & take your time.

I've bought a couple of Mighty Mite necks. Decent quality. WD is another brand to look into. Not familiar with the GF necks.

Mighty Might has been around a long time, at least as long as Warmoth. They make good stuff. They are certainly as "real" as a Warmoth neck. I have a Mighty Might birdseye maple Tele neck on my Charvel and it's a wonderful. The necks Stew-Mac sells are Mighty Might necks.

Personaly I dislike the shape of Warmoth necks, but they are also made well. But they are not the end-all of necks.

I have no experience with Guitar Fetish necks, but I had someone bring in a GF Tele body, and the Warmoth neck he had wouldn't fit the neck pocket. The control cavity was also too shallow, and the bridge pickup rout was too small and in the wrong place. He sent it back and got a Mighty Might body. I can just imagine how the GF necks are.

I'd buy a Mighty Might neck any day.
