Replacement Tuners for a Yamaha BB615?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am disappointed in the tuners on my Yamaha BB615. They keep tuning fine, but the metal cloverleafs bend very easily.

I know very little about replacing bass tuners. Would there be an aftermarket brand that would just drop in? Do I only need to know the diameter of the holes?

The bass neckdives a bit. Is there a lightweight option for the BB series?

Thanks.

Does the diameter of the tuner shaft have to match the holes exactly?

When a tuner says it fits 1/2", does it mean that that is the diameter of the holes?

I am not too worried about screw holes lining up.

Yamaha's peg holes will be metric, I presume, yet the replacement tuners all appear to be in inches. Does it have to match exactly?

Hipshot's Ultralites come in 3/8 and 1/2" sizes. Will either fit?

I'm picking up my BB615 this week and if it's as good as the reviews say I'll be looking at a Badass V and new tuners.

Any update on this thread would be useful.

I've looked at tuners, are they really about £50 each ($100) or is that far a set of 4. $500 seems like a lot to upgrade the tuners i.e. far too much

Presumably there's a data sheet for replacement tuners too.

My BB615 arrived today

I saw a post somewhere saying that the 615 they tried in a shop had better tuners and was maybe a European model?

Well mine came from Germany (Thomann), cost less than £300 posted and has dimension wise exactly the same tuners as my Bongo's.

Even the bridge is not the cheap and nasty affair I was expecting. Yes it's a plate of bent steel chrome plated but it's thick enough for me.

What a great bass. Flatwounds about to go on (La Bella Deep Talkers).

I'm very pleased, the sound is great and the value is outstanding.

So that's 4 Yamahas now

Family photo needed and maybe I can join the club
