Replacement tuning machine heads for Marcus Miller Jazz...

Sign in to disble this ad
My MM is a bit neck heavy, and doesn't sit too comfortably. So I've decided I want to replace the tuners. But I'm not sure what to get, so I was wondering if some of you duders could help.

Thanks.

that has the big vintage keys, right?

if you want a replacement with no alterations, you need the gotoh res-o-lights.

otherwise, hipshot makes keys with the same post and button size, but with a small, lightweight body. you'll need to drill a new little mounting hole in the back, but it'll look normal from the front.

Yeah, it's the big, heavy vintage ones.

Can you link me to the tuning machines?

EDIT:
I found this website:
http://buzzardsbass.com/parts/tuning...es/fender.html

And I want to get the "Fender Hipshot American Standard Bass Tuning Machines"
Will those work?

i think so, they should be pretty light weight.

i have the "Fender Schaller Deluxe Lite Series" on my P-bass, and those are very light weight. (with these, be sure to put a drop of blue loc-tite in the little set-screws, or you'll lose them.)

either one will require a little drilling, as they have two sort of nubs that stick out into the wood to keep them from spinning.

the gotoh res-o-lights cost more, but they look just like big vintage keys and should go right on.

the resolites have the same screw mounting pattern as the reverse winds. they are great keys, but i believe that the MM has the later CBS style heads that have the mounting holes in a different location.

Yeah, they're a bit large. But I don't mind screwing in a few new holes.

so the choice becomes the smaller lightweights that might leave the old holes showing but would allow the originals to go back on and cover everything, or the bigger (and pricier) gotohs which would cover all when installed but might leave new holes showing if you ever went back to stock.

for whatever reason the marcus has the reverse winds and the geddy has the cbs style tuner.

A simple advice: save yourself time, money and hassle, don't do business with Buzzardsbass.

+1, but you forgot to say grief like you've never experienced.
