Replacing 20 fret neck with 24 fret neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I know it would work with a warmoth neck, they can have them with the added frets hanging over the body. My question is, would it be worth it/ow is the fret access? I have a highway 1 P bass that I love, and this is the only thing that makes me want a new bass, and if a new neck could fix that, less money spent.

You would need to make sure all 4 frets hang over the body. Most only have 2 frets overhanging as they're made to replace 22 fret necks. If you put a physically longer neck on the bass you effectively increase the scale length beyond the normal 34" and your bass will no longer play in tune.

How often do you play there?

Surprisingly often, I do a bit of tapping/chording up in the higher register.
The Warmoth necks look to have all 4 overhanging. Has anybody else done this?

I can't imagine the access being that good. The body gets very in the way, and you'd eventually have to go over the front of the body to go higher.

After looking at pictures thats what I assumed, but you never know. I can't imagine they would bother offering it if it wasn't worth it.
I guess I have an excuse for a new bass now

Very poor upper fret access for those added frets over the body. Not worth it imo.

if you are just using your tapping hand up there, access wouldn't be an issue...
