Replacing a bridge on a Squire.

I'm replacing the original bridge on a mid-'80s Squier jazz body. What advantage, if any, is there to filling the old screw holes from the old bridge with dowels or is it not a big deal and I can leave them empty?

If the new holes won't interfere with the old holes, you're fine. But you may find that this isn't the case- a new hole will end up halfway into an old one, that sort of thing, so if that's the case dowel 'em.
