Replacing fretboard

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, got two questions about a bass I love. I have a ī06 black Fender Jazz Bass MIM (itīs a keeper), but I found that with 24 frets it would be just perfect.
Is there a way to replace the fretboard on it? Kind of a Warmoth extension, I guess.

If the answer is yes, do you prefer maple or rosewood, or...?

On the other hand, I just love the tone, but I want to get more output. Any ideas?

Any input would be great. Thanks in advance!

Not worth the money. Replacing the fretboard is a costly proposition.

I guess so, but getting a new neck is not possible, and in minding the cost you have to get into equation where I am from, here in South America, a Fender like mine is costing a whopping thousand dollars, so getting a new one, like de 24 fret Korean Fender I saw is about 1300 US.

Thanks for your quick answer Zooberwerx!

Once I built an extension that screwed to the body. Put frets in it. Do fine work or have a luthier do it, so that board and fret heights/radiuses match well.

I see. So it can be done. Wouldnīt be any issues with the new fretboard raising at a different rate than the rest of the neck? Thank you! Any others?

Oh, man....you really don't have that many cost-effective alternatives, do you? Two words: move north. We'd love to have you.

Happy Easter!
