Replacing grille cloth

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, my friend and I were out scoping out pawn shops when we came across a Kasino Concert 200w guitar head with a Kasino 2x15 cab for $100, so we had to buy since he was looking for a bigger amp anyway, it was cheap, and it's vintage-esque. The one gripe I have it the shape it's in, it's absolutely filthy, especially the grill cloth. Well, anyway, we want to replace the grill cloth but have no idea on how to go about it. It all seems to be on big piece with the frame, the baffle, and the speakers all together. Any ideas on how to go about it and/or how to get that ground in dirt out of there? Oh yeah, and any info on the amp itself would be cool too.

Tolexing isn't the easiest thing out there, nor is it the most difficult.

Depending on how the grille is on there (wooden frame? velcroed?) that it could be as easy as stretching and pounding a few staples in.

If the grill cloth isn't torn up, but just dirty, get some carpet and upholstery cleaner from your local auto parts store. It'll clean it right up, and only cost about $5. They sell the cans with the brush or without. Make sure you don't get any on the speakers or electronics.

It was torn all to hell. Umm, it looks to me that the frame and baffle are all one piece and they actually built the cab around it. I also don't wanna pry the the thing out since it would damage the cab itself. I'll take a pic if I can find my camera.

Pretty sure you need to pull the guts out to do a proper re-tolexing.

I wasn't planning on re-Tolexing unless is was absolutely necessary. The Tolex was actually in pretty decent shape, wear you'd expect from 25 years, but the grille cloth wasn't salvageable.

Well, I found a new problem... If it gets anywhere above half volume the feedback becomes insane, like you can't even play a note.
