Replacing my P Bass neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 2004 American P Bass with a rosewood neck. Love it, but I really prefer the original 1.75" nut width of the 1957s, the 1983s and AV RI Precision basses. I know Leo Fender designed the necks to be replaced, but can I really just switch out my 2004 neck with a AV 57 RI neck with no mods? I saw an American 57 RI maple neck for sale that got me thinking. I know I'd need to get vintage RI tuners, but is that all?

Thanks.

Louis

I dont think the neck pocket sized changed much if at all - I do know that the machining quality varied a little though.

Varied probably before CNC machines or whatever machine now cuts the wood. I figure the original neck's heel should be the same as the new replacement neck's since they are only a few years apart. Maybe I'll go for it. Thanks.
