Replacing a p bass pickguard

Sign in to disble this ad
I have searched but I just cant find anything. I am thinking of getting a MIM P bass in sunburst. The only problem is the white pickguard. It just looks bad. I was thinking of using a red pearloid color or something. My main question is, will I have to do any soldering? I know it sounds lame but I dont want to mess with the electronics. Thanks

If this is a standard passive P-bass, the pickguard simply fits around the pup. I changed the guard on my MIM Jazz, and the only problem was I had to file the hole in the guard, as the pup was a bit tight. (It wasn't Fender-brand replacement guard.) No electronics were attached to the pickguard.

Yes I did this with my Fender P and it was relatively easy. I don't know if your bass will be different, though.

I have switched pickguards on P and J basses and no soldering was involved. It is a breeze.
