replacing SR506 bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
Has someone replaced one of these with a hipshot 6-string A-type or something similar? And was it easy?

I'm asking because of the Ibanez saddle issue others have already reported. The problem being they cut the saddle adjustment threads oversized, probably thinking the plating/anodizing was going to end up thicker. But it isn't and the screws are all loose.

Nail polish was recommended here -- I use Loctite 242.

Its really unfortunate since the basses seem nice otherwise.

Never had any issue with my SR bridges, but a hipshot bridge should be easy to do.

Bump... Nobody here has actually replaced a bridge on an SR506?

The main concern is whether the mounting holes are going to overlap with the Ibanez holes in an undesirable way.

I'm talking specifically about the hipshot A-style 6-string with the .669" spacing.

I don't know how much the 506 has varied over the years but I got a Hiphshot type B from Carvin a few years back (cheaper there) and put it on what I think is a early or mid 90s 506. Everything lined up fine, using existing screw holes.

But really, as long as the new bridge covers the area well at the correct scale length, it's not that big a deal to fill old holes and drill new if that turns out not to be the case on a newer 506.

OP, did you ever replace the bridge on your SR506? Did it work? I've been thinking about doing the same thing on my bass.

EDIT:

Just measured the bridge on my SR506 and it is 4" wide even. The smallest Hipshot bridge (@ .669") is 4.47". No go without routing.
