Replacing Truss Rod in Set Neck Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I may need to have the truss rod replaced in a set-neck bass, as the nut on the truss rod is stripped (the builder is sending me a tool that may help with that).

Here's the cunundrum though... The truss rod is accessed at the body end of the neck and not the headstock, so in order to replace it, it looks like the fretboard needs to be popped off. Does anyone know of a place that can do that sort of work?

Thanks!

Kevin.

Any good luthier can do that, not very hard. But it will cost 300-400 bucks or so. Maybe the builder could do it? Hope the axe is worth it. Good luck.

Oh, the bass is definitely worth it, so I have no problem with paying the cost to have it fixed. It's my newest Cliff Bordwell bass, and it's one of the most versatile basses in my small collection. I did talk to Cliff about it and he's been great about helping me find someone who's willing to do it, but he doesn't have time to do the repair himself.

If it's just the nut(used the wrong tool?)that's stripped out where the tool goes, that's no biggie. There are various ways to get that sucker out so you can put on a new nut.
