Replacing volume pot in Ernie Ball VP Jr. 25K

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

As a bass player, I have a small pedal board that I play through, mostly for the purpose of shaping my tone and not for effecting the sound. I had an Ernie Ball VP Jr. 25K volume pedal on my board, but recently it has been giving me problems.

I would turn it all the way up and the volume would be around 50%. I would then turn it all the way down, then back up, and the sound level would be different than before, but still not necessarily 100%. Essentially, each time I would adjust it, the output volume would be different. I checked to make sure that the string that turns the volume pot wasn't slipping as I did this, and it isn't, so I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the actual volume pot getting worn out.

I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to replace this without having to purchase a whole new pedal. If it is, where could I get a replacement volume pot? I've searched the internet fairly extensively to no avail, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

You might try cleaning the pot first with some DeOxit. Also, if you're using the mono version of the VP Jr, the pot is 250K (the stereo version uses a 25K pot). That said, both are inexpensive and readily available.

no, there's a 25k mono version (use it myself for guitar, after some buffered pedals).

+1 to spraying it with deoxit, but it sounds to me like the pot is slipping on the string.

there's a good youtube video out there on changing that string (might even be an official EB tutorial), and the same procedure would come into play when changing a pot.

try going through it with the stock parts to make sure they're working right.
