Reputable Fanned Frets Builder?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a frankenbass I'd like to convert into a fanned fret model but I don't know who to take it to as far as a builder/luthier goes. I don't know how common the knowledge is to make a fanned fret fingerboard. Plus, I don't intend to do it the typical 34-37'' way, but rather, a gentler 33-34.5'' to fatten up the G and D and keep the A the same but give the E something extra.

Also, how am I going to fix the nut situation so it can angle back a bit like a Novax system? The headstock angles down so the fingerboard won't rest on it... overhang?

Huh, my old luthier from my hometown had a similar idea apparently. I e-mailed him about this and his fanned fret Precision, that was made custom by Novax back in the day, has a 33.25''-34'' scale. That's actually what I settled on a bit after posting this. I remember that bass, it's a joy to play and sounds awesome. Anyone know if Novax is still taking custom orders? Their FAQ kind of discourages it...
