resetting the neck straight

ive messed this up in the past and wanna do it right this time.
i need to remove the neck from my mim fender jazz to do some work on it, but im unsure about getting it bac on straight. any advice??

Yup. Put the neck in the pocket, install screws so they're snug, not tight. Install strings but don't tighten them very much. Then sit the instrument's base on a table so it's standing upright and move the neck left and right until the strings are aligned on the fretboard to your liking. Then tighten the screws the rest of the way, and tighten the strings up to tune.
