Restringing a lefty for a righty

Sign in to disble this ad
For reasons not under my circumstance, I got a 5 string lefty bass; but i'm a righty. I really want to play this bass; but i noticed that the nut is cut specifically for the strings to be played lefty.

should/can i restring my bass righty?

I'm having the same dilemma, I contacted a few repair shops and st. louis and they gave me prices ranging from 30-60 dollars, and said it should be a problem

are you going to hold that bass in a left handed position or right handed position?

i play the bass like a righty, it's built for a lefty. So i want to just flip the bass over and restring it so that the e-string is on top still.

you asking for trouble. i have done something similar: tried to play a right handed bass upside down strung for a lefty. look at the back of the bass, there is contour there for a reason - for your body, as well the upper horn is longer for a reason, to balance the body with a strap.

good luck

you should just get a righty bass.

I'm a lefty who started playing on a right handed, never turned the stings around until i got my own left handed (the other was from a friend of mine).

Although It's less comfortable playing for it's shape, It's perfectly doable to turn the strings around if you get hold of a lefty nut to place at the neck (or file a blank one out).

Also when using a strap, it's difficult to reach all the way towards the bridge because the strap blocks the way (the strap knob is now below the neck).

So yes you can string it the other way around.

That's me. I still string my lefties upside down. Can't teach this old dog new tricks. Warning...all those "How To Slap" training videos don't help when you play like this.

Cool, I actually still use a righthanded for the more stoner rock oriented stuff, cause that's what I played most when I begun playing bass. It somehow still feels natural to have the low E on the bottom.

And slapping is indeed *different* that way :]
