OK. I have some bass parts I would like to marry and not sure of the possibilities.
The body is an older black Samick PJ configuration. The neck is a new SX Maple Jazz (Geddy-like one w/ blk blocks).
The problem is that the Samick has a significantly deeper/longer neck pocket because of its neck length/scale. So when I butt the Jazz neck all the way into the pocket, it won't accomodate a standard size string.
Can I still mount it this way and find shorter scale strings to eliminate my problem?
If so, will the bass just not feel right, like to short/uncomfortable, if I do so?
Thanks,
Shawn |

| | | | No. The scale length will be all out of whack. You'd have to reposition the bridge.
What's the scale length of the Samick? |

I kinda figured that. And also thought likewise about the bridge. Unfortunately, I don't have the specs here with me at work. I will have to post them tonight. |

34 inches is the lenght from nut to bridge, if the samick body is smaller than an Sx body, the samick neck will be longer than the Sx one to compensate.
The only thing you can do is to move the bridge back, if it's impossible, you are screwed. |

I would guess this would change the tone, correct? Would hope not because I am extremely content with the tone. The J pup growls like a cat which I think has a lot to do with its positioning. |

Is it just a cosmetic thing, or is there something wrong with the Samick neck? |

It's one of the reasons I don't play it as much.
The SX neck I bought as a backup neck that I never put to use. And, asthetically it will look nice IMO on that black body with the black hardware & tuners. Mmm, maple & black... |

| | | There is a lot of talk in this thread. But there is no data. - When the SX neck is fully seated, what is the distance from the twelfth fret to the center of the bridge adjustment?
- How much saddle travel is available at the bridge?
- What is the distance from the end of the bridge to the end of the body?
With this information posted you will get usable advice. |

Play faster and skip the dead notes. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
