Ric 4003 - Major Truss Rod Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I was given a 1995 Jetglo Rickenbacker 4003 Bass (my friend actually bought it at a yard sale). It seems the previous owner had tried to tighten one of the two truss rods too much and it looks like it snapped the very top part of one of the two truss rods where the nut connects to it. Other than this horrid problem, the bass is actually in really good shape - besides the action/relief being out of whack.

Can something like this be repaired? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

-Brian.

Rickenbacker calls them "Field replaceable truss rods" so I think they should be replaceable with a little effort. How you go about doing it, I have no idea.

Ask Dale Fortune on the Rickenbacker website. When it comes to Rics, he's a real fart smeller!

Yes, it's removable. Instead of one end of the rod being anchored inside the neck like a Fender or Gibson, the rods go all the way through and are anchored at the butt end of the neck. Remove the pickguard and you'll see the locknuts and lockwashers. The channels for the rods are slightly curved.

You can get a replacement rod from Rick customer service. They can give you some help with procedure or you can get help at the Rick company forum or Rick Resource Forum.
