Ric problem with adjusting the neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,
I keep forgetting to post the thread on this page about my problem which occured from the day I had this bass.
MY 1979 Ric I bought has difficulty with adjusting the thrust-rods which both of the nuts are leaning back toward head stock so you can not insert the driver as they laid on the wood and there is not enough room for the wrench to slip in and function though I already grinded the thick part of the wrench to make it slimmer.
Did you experience it also and how did you correct it.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
Chalie

Hey, there...

I have seen this issue covered in the "Setup and Technical" forum over on the Rickenbacker website (http://www.rickenbacker.com/forum_index.asp). IIRC, it's a fairly common problem. Take a look around there. Good luck!

EDIT: I spent a few minutes over at the Ric Website, and think I found something that might help:

From what I have heard about Ric necks is that you do not touch the truss rod unless you absolutely 500% know what you are doing. I know that that is not your problem but just saying to be on the safe side.

+1 if it's a 4001. The OP says his Ric is a '79, so it's definitely a 4001.

Remember, to adjust the 4001, you have to manually move the neck more or less to its desired position (brace the body between the knees and move the neck with your hand) and hold it there while tightening the truss rods, otherwise the fretboard might pop off.

They fixed this problem with the 4003, and you can tighten the rods just like any other bass.
