Rickenbacker 4003 Action?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello!
I've been playing a Rickenbacker 4003 for about 5 years now, i love evrything aabout it but i've recently started to have trouble getting up and down the neck. It feels like i'm constantly having to put way too much effort into pressing the strings down.
I don't know anything about bass setup or what a bass 'should' or 'should not' feel like so i was wondering are Rickenbackers known for coming form the factory with a high action? Would getting a tech to lower the aciton help with my problem and would that in turn effect my sound or the volume of the bass at all?

How often do you have the oil changed, in your car?

Go get it setup, you'll be a much happier camper!

That was pretty deep.
By setup do you mean just give it to a tech and explain what i've just said on here?
Cheers for the reply!

there is a good sticky on the front of this section of the forum that has several links that explain what a set-up is. But basically it involves adjusting the truss rod in the neck so that the neck has the proper amount of bow or straightness, and using the bridge saddles to set the string height or "action."

learn how to set up your bass. The 4003 has 2 truss rods. Adjust them so the neck is flat. You will probably need to adjust the rods twice a year ... spring and fall. Also you can raise and lower the bridge by turning the 2 allen screws.
