My bridge pickup on my Ric was tapping the strings when i played, so I tried to lower it. When it wouldn't lower, I went inside (took apart the pickup guard and such). When I finally put it all back together, it was even worse. Like a lot worse. It is unplayable now. What have I done and how can I fix it?
The screws are as tight as they can go and my pickup is touching my strings. What do I do???
I do own a 4003 but I don't work on my basses and guitars except to change strings................Give this thread a little time the Ric experts will answer you soon enough,,,,,,,.................Good luck
I responded to your other thread, but to reiterate: tightening the screws will in effect raise the pick up, so you would need to loosen the screws (turn counter clockwise) to lower the pick up. On my 4003 + 4001 I also added some medium light springs under the pick up housing to keep things stable after the pickup cover was removed. Not sure it was necessary but it didn't hurt anything. If your not comfortable performing these things don't take a chance of damaging your Ric , take it to a pro.

^^ this. Learn how the mechanics of adjusting your pickups are supposed to work. If you really have run out of room, I have clipped a few pup springs to accommodate. Keep in mind that the rubber washer on the Ric pups need to be oriented to work optimally.
the bridge pickup on my 4003 was significantly louder than the neck pickup, even with the neck pickup raised as high as it would go and the bridge pickup lowered as far as it would go. I bought longer screws and springs from the local hardware store and put 'em in the bridge pickup assembly. problem sloved.
