Rickenbacker truss block? wrong way to install??

Just got the rods out of my 1979 Ric to fix them and the truss block has a skinny side and fat side. which goes up and down or is it just not centered properly and don't matter? pic to follow shortly

You can see its a little skinnier on the top of the block in the pic. Also thought about adding a washer or two between the truss nuts and block, bad?
