Rickenbacker's new bridge design?

Well it was rumoured about that wasnt it? I'd change mine original bridge with hipshot but I really dislike the look of it

Do you fellow bassists think we'll live to see new bridge w/o tail lift and terrible adjustings of it?

People have been waiting over 30 years for a redesigned bridge. John Hall doesn't seem to see anything wrong with the design. Their basses are perfect, didn't you know?

The original bridge can be modded to allow easier intonation adjustments. Just replace the phillips screws with allen head screws. An allen wrench is alot easier to adjust the Rick bridge with than a screwdriver.

From what I read from him on the Ric site, its not about thinking their basses are perfect. He said the core customers do not want anything changed on a "vintage" design. I recently sold my Ric but I think we can all agree that there are alot of obsessive Ric owners, maybe much more so than other basses. For the record I hated the bridge and the first time I got the bass and changed the strings, I thought I broke the damn thing when the saddle piece fell off!

It's a bad design, that's all there is to it. There's no reason they couldn't redesign it but keep it looking basically the same. Or even offer a replacement bridge as a part to buy separately, instead of making people buy the Hipshot. (Which loses them money because they could be selling it) Just the amount of people who do buy the Hipshot should tell them something. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek but there's a grain of truth to it, I think.

Or here's a thought: Rickebacker could make a vintage design bass for those who can't stand any change, even if it means significant improvement, and they could make a model that actually utilyzes modern conveniences and developments for people who don't feel like taking their bass in for repairs every other week, and can sacrifice tradition for improvement.

They do - the vintage is the 4003, the modernised version is the 4004.
