saddle adjustment spring(?) question

Sign in to disble this ad
The saddle adjustment screws on my Ibanez BTB455 have springs. I'm guessing to ensure that the saddles remain pushed forward(?). I've got the individual mono-rail II bridges. I've got a good set-up, excellent intonation on the upper 4 strings, but I need a little more string length to get the low B right on. Any problem with removing the spring? It's completely squashed right now and I need a bit more string length. Thanks. Pete

The purpose of the springs is to keep the saddles pushed forward while changing strings. You can remove the spring. Just be sure the screw head is in firm contact with the base of the bridge when the intonation is set. The string will supply more than enough pressure to hold the saddle in place. I've done this on the B string of several of my 4 strings that are strung BEAD.

If you want the spring in place, it can be trimmed with a HEAVEY pair of wire cutters. The wire is hard enough to dent the blades of small cutters.
