Saddles Help.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, as you can see i am new to this board.

I own a Fender Vintage 50's precision bass and to be honest it needs a bit of attention, it has all of the expected vintage hardware on it including the threaded saddles.

These are looking a bit worn and i would like to replace them, my question is, will i have to replace these with the vintage style threaded saddles or will any saddle that looks like it will fit (fender style) fit my bass?

http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-sh...7_1_25_31.html

the ones i am looking at buying are the ones second in this list, as you can see, the screws on the top two saddles on this page are located on the left hand side of the saddle, with the screws on the vintage saddle below, on the right hand side, is this an issue? or can i just buy any?

thank you for you time, any help appreciated.

Take the set-screws out and insert them from the other side.

Problem solved.

for that matter, take the set screws out of the ones you already have and flip the saddles over. now your strings are resting on brand new saddle.

thing is, though, those saddles are nice steel, and should last forever. i'm surprised they need any attention anyway.

Stainless strings vs. Nickel-plated, mild steel, maybe?

It does seem a little odd that they'd be worn. They will "nest" after a while, but this is usually very minor.
