Sand the Heel, or the Pocket?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Squier P neck, from '97, that I'm going to mount to an MIM J body, coincidentally also from '97 or thereabouts.

Problem is, while they look like a match made in heaven, as in the neck heel and the neck pocket are rounded at the end, there is a problem. The neck has a bit of a tighter curve at the corners, so it doesn't butt right up against the end of the neck pocket.

I'm wondering whether I should sand out the neck pocket, or sand down the neck heel? I have no problem with either, as I'm doing this as cheaply as I can while getting decent parts.

I'd hit the neck- it should be easier. Mark the area you want to sand w/a pencil & carefully(you can always take a little more but putting it back is tricky )sand until all the pencil marks are gone, then check the fit & repeat if needed.

Do the heel. The pocket is much easier to screw up.

Use a flat file on the heel
