schaller 3d bridge spacer

Does the spacer on the schaller 3d bridge have a function except for making the bridge higher?

The spacer is a rectangle with a rectangular hole in it that allows you to make the bridge higher if needed. It was on a jazz bass i bought, but i'm thinking about taking it of, because it has nog use on the jazz. The whole bridge makes contact with the body, but the spacer only makes contact on the edges.

Would this affect the sound?

I've had it on and off my Jazz bass, and it has no sonic impact whatsoever.
I made some mods and installed the Schaller Roller, but as you probably expected, if you want to keep the action lower, removing it is the thing to do.

The other issue I had with the spacer is that you have to ensure the bridge ground wire (if you run one) makes solid contact with the edges and doesn't shift towards the open middle while tightening down the bridge screws.

The spacer does adds a bit of weight. I used one to combat a neck dive issue on a '54 P-bass copy. It helped a little.

As for the bridge itself; I like it. The roller action is nice and smooth.

Thanks for the info.

It idd takes of a bit of weight. This is a good thing in my case, because the bass is on the heavy side
