Schaller Strap Locks on a MM Sterling?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a new MM Sterling and would like to install a set of Schaller strap locks. Have any of you done it and how did it work out? I was wondering if the screws were different in size or if it was a quick swap.

Has no one put a set of these strap locks on their MM Sterling? If so, how was the install? Were you able to use the original screws?

1. Remove strap buttons.
2. Fill hole with toothpicks and woodglue.
3. Wait 24 hours.
4. Trim toothpicks flush with bass.
5. Install straplocks with included screws.
6. Rock out.

It's not always necessary to fill the holes and use the new screws - if you take the old screws out and use them to install the new strap buttons, you'll be fine as long as they tighten up okay.

Make sure you
a) don't damage the heads of the screws when taking out/putting back in - use the right driver
b) don't slip and damage the finish
c) don't try to overtighten (as soon as you feel them start to "creak" do another half turn or so and that's it).

If they won't tighten up enough to feel secure to you, then you'll need to fill the hole and use new screws, as described.

BTW, I have these on every bass I own (that's eleven - oh lordy lordy help me), including my Stingray (using the original screws). Only once have I needed to plug the original hole to fit them securely.

I put Schallers on my MM. I did end up using the original screws because they were the same width as the Schaller screws but longer. It worked out great.
