Schaller straplock screws

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought some Schaller locks for my Ric 4003, which comes with the male parts already on the bass, so after installing the female parts on the strap I had two male parts left over.

I wanted to install them on my VM Jaguar, but the screws that come with the Schallers are a lot smaller, both in diameter and length, then the stock screws on the Jag, and the stock screws won't fit in the Schaller strap button.

So I guess I'm out of luck using the same strap for both basses or what? I don't want to fill the hole in as I hate permanent mods of any kind. Maybe Fender straplocks will work?

The toothpick or matchstick solution has been documented ad nauseum.

Toothpick method will work - or - grind a little off of the outer circumference of the larger screw head so it fits into the Schaller button.

I use a Dremel tool and secure the screw in a piece of scrap wood. Takes about 5 minutes with set-up and clean up included!

That's a good idea, thanks. Will have to give it a try.

I have, on more than one occasion, drilled a slightly larger inner hole on the button to accommodate a larger screw. However the head will not normally then fit inside the button so I have ise a Dremel w/ a grinding stone or wheel to turn down the outside diameter of the head to fit inside. While the Schaller Strap Locks are my preference I have always thought the original screws were a bit anemic. When using this method I have never had an issue.
