Schaller tuners and Fender headstock

Just installed a set of Schallers on a mighty mite fender licensed neck. The base of the tuner barely fits behind the headstock (almost sticks out at the tip of the headstock). Is this normal? Or did I get the wrong tuners?

No, that's a pretty common condition. Some of the Fender headstocks are slightly smaller. I replaced the tuners on my own CIJ 62 J reissue and used black Fender J tuners from an MIA. I had the same issue. We just filed down the little piece and it's fine. I just put some onto an Essex and had to do the same. The large Schallers just seem to do this. I would be that they would fit the basses from before the 80's better.
