I was looking for an older Schaller tuner to replace a Detuner on a G&L, and recently picked up a set of four.
Just before the auction closed comments were added saying that 2 of the tuners had a shorter shaft (that the clover leaf was on) than was on the other pair.
The other comments were that they were reversible.
I read the second comment and thought once reversed the lengths would be the same, and I nded up buying the set.
Now that I have them in hand I see my error - they all have the clover leaf on the right side, for a right handed bass. But the length is definitely different for each pair.
On two, there is almost no space between the end of the curve of the clover leaf where it meats the shaft, and the section that gets screwed into the headstock.
Here's the completed auction

What would these have originally been designed for? Would the "short" pair have been the tuners closest to the nut on a 2x2 setup, and they've just all been reversed/setup to be for a 4x setup?
Any issues just setting them up on a P Bass in a normal configuration? Since I don't know why two would be shorter I'm not sure what problems that would cause if any.
