Schecter C-4 XXX Nut

Sign in to disble this ad
No porn here!

I have the C-4 XXX 4 string. I want to string it BEAD instead of EADG.

My question is can I take a Schecter 5 string nut and trim it down since I want to save the 4 string nut for putting back on later.

How does the nut come off on the Schecter basses? Are they glued? Just pry them off? On my fender it just slides out but when I change the strings on the XXX the nut stays in place.

The reason I want to do this is because I want the low B but don't have the big hands to play a 5ver.

There are 5ers that support smaller hands better than others. Ibanez & some Corts (I find my B5 too narrow).

I don't know Schector but I'm used to nuts glued in with low-ish strength glue (I use wood glue to put them back in. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK; find a nail who's head is a touch smaller than the side of the nut, blunt the point of the nail down, then position it on the side of the nut & give a gentle rap to the nail with a hammer. Nut should pop out.

Best advice: Get a qualified tech to do this for you.

The nut on the Shecter is glued real tight, you may damage your bass trying to change it out. Shecters made in Korea are made very well and are built to last and imho are difficult to successfully modify beyond pu's . I would talk to a professional about it before attempting it myself

I replaced the nut on my stiletto. It's glued pretty tight. I took a razor, and ran it along the edge, on top of the fingerboard where the nut, and fingerboard meets. To break the edge, & minimize splintering. I took a pliers, and gently rocked the nut back anf fourth until it gave. I did not glue the new nut.

at you own risk

You just left it a floating nut?
