Schecter Truss Rod Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know what type of truss rods are fitted to the recent schecter neck through basses
Ive rounded mine like a noob
probably from my constant fiddling syndrome
and need to work out how im gonna fix it
Just not sure if its just a case of getting the nut off and replacing it or if its a welded double action one what can i do then ?
PLEASE HELP

All of the Schecter's I've seen were using double action truss rods, so you might be in trouble. Give Schecter a call or an email to verify which type of rod you have and then take that info with you to the local Luthier. Which is probably where you're going to end up eventually anyway.

Truss rod nuts are not the easiest to work with. I advise having a pro take a look at it.

I have never had a problem with my Schecter truss rod but I know if I did I would bring it to a professional.

I have taken it to 2 so called professionals and they both wrote the instrument off saying id be better to buy a new bass
So being as I had nothing to loose I thought id have a dam good go myself
I got some small wood files and opened up the truss rod groove slightly and gave it a longer taper so i now have more room to acces the nut from directly above.
I then took My snap on screwdriver bits to see what was the closest oversize to fit it, This was the T27 Torx bit
I lined it up with the trus rod nut and gave it a good hammering until it was totally seated in the hole
and whaddya know it works i now have an almost perfectly straight neck again

That's very lucky for you that you were able to get something that worked Are you able to just leave the torx bit jammed in there for future adjustments? That would be good.

I was thinking that if you are having to do constant truss rod adjusts, you might have a flaky neck that won't stay in proper relief. If that's the case, I'd sell it and get another bass if possible. I can tell you that the two Schecter's I owned were rock solid and never needed constant rod adjusts. Maybe once a year if that or if I changed string size or gauge.

Glad you were able to make it work.

Yeah the Torx bit is wedged in there

Main reason im always fiddling with it is i have been experimenting with different gauge strings also i play down a step in my metal band and standard on my solo stuff

I don't envy you having to cover that scenario with just one bass. I played in a group where we tuned down on certain tunes and hated it cause it made the strings so floppy. I ended up going to really heavy strings on my 4 string P and having to jack the action up high to keep it from buzzing out. Finally, I was able to get another bass to set up for the detuned stuff and I was OK then. We tuned down on about 30 % of the stuff so I got a decent used MIM P to use for that.

They say Jaco used to do truss rod adjustments during the songs when he was playing. If he heard a note he didn't like the sound of, he'd adjust the neck while he played. When you shave down a Jazz neck like he did, rod adjustments are a necessary evil.

Good luck and keep low
