the screws that hold the machine head in

Sign in to disble this ad
My boyfriend noticed awhile back that his Fender J are missing a couple screws that screw down the machine head on the back of the bass. He keep meaning to find them, but seeing he is gigging 6 nights a week (4 nights as a DJ and 2 with his band), he hasn't had time. It isn't a problem-I mean I played the bass quite a few times and all but I am the type to wanna fix things "just in case". Any idea where I can get a couple of just the screws without having to buy the whole machine head?? Or can I go to the local hardware store and get the exact size...which is ??? Pardon me for sounding dumb, and please don't pick cause I am a chick (and no I am NOT blond lol) but I only been playing for 2 1/2 years and still learning ok!?

Unscrew one, and bring it into a the local hardware shop. They should be able to match it for you.

Definitely detune the string first.

You might be able to find them at a local hardware store if not here are a few links.

I've built a bass from rough lumber club #2 (I'm pretty sure).

...and if not at a local hardware shop, try a local music shop. If the guitar repair tech is like most, he'll have a drawer filled with every spare screw he's pulled off a guitar since 1975.
