Second attempt at installing neck

I give up! My second attempt at putting a new neck on a body and it's crooked. Next time I'm paying to have it done!

That sucks my friend. Few things are worse than a crooked bass neck.

Bummer. Doing neck to body connection real well wether bolt on or set neck is tough. lets pet vampyrebunny gently push OP toward luthiers board for help.

Remove your neck

And drill out the mounting holes in the body to the next size up. Replace the neck just barely tight. Use a string to center the neck to the bridge center by aligning the dots. Push pull or whatever to gently force the neck into alignment and retighten the screws well.
Good luck on your project,
Rob

or you could skip a few of those steps and get a subtle tone improvement in the bargain by just loosening the screws a quarter-turn while fully strung and tuned, push the neck over until both outside strings line up with the edges of the neck, then re-tighten.

this trick lets the strings pull the neck down hard into the pocket, eliminating any gap and often resulting in a slightly more solid tone.

Gave it on last shot. Filled the holes with toothpicks and wood glue. After carefully lining the neck up with the E and G string, I crudely clamped the neck on with a c clamp vice grip and a small book (no wood blocks around the house). Drilled it again and after tightening the screws down, it was almost perfect. Set string height and intonation and now I'm happy with my frankenjazz bass.
